A quick look at our favorite new releases from Longines at Baselworld 2018.
Longines HydroConquest Diver
Longines decided to update the Longines HydroConquest collection for Baselworld 2018. They introduced a revamped version that feels familiar but sees some smart updates to both its design and materials.

The Longines HydroConquest series launched back in 2007 and has since become a familiar face within the Longines range of products. For 2018, Longines has updated the HydroConquest by replacing the aluminum bezel with a ceramic bezel. It is a smart move by Longines, as it substantially raises the level of quality and ceramic bezels have already been added to many – often more expensive – watches.

In addition, Longines has also updated the stainless steel bracelet and the shape of the bezel by removing the smooth sides at the ‘0’ and ’30’ markings. The design of the dial has also been improved to make it easier on the eye than that of the previous version. What remains is the very recognizable and large 12, 6, and 9 numerals that give the watch its individual character.

The new Hydroconquest is powered by the automatic Longines caliber L888.2 and is available in stainless steel with a black, blue, or silver-colored dial and bezel. Customers not only have a choice of their favorite color but also between a stainless steel bracelet or matching rubber strap. The standard version of this watch will be available in 43 mm and 41 mm, while a chronograph version will only be available in 41 mm.

With the new Hydroconquest, Longines has taken smart steps to update the watch and make it even more attractive to consumers who are looking for a quality diving watch at prices starting well under 1,500 euros.

Another Longines announcement from Baselworld 2018 is the Longines Master Collection Annual Calendar. The Longines Master Collection was introduced in 2005 and has since become the brand’s flagship collection. With this Master Collection Annual Calendar, the brand is further strengthening its image as a traditional watchmaking company that not only offers watches at affordable prices but also produces contemporary timepieces with high-quality movements.

The new Longines Master Collection Annual Calendar is powered by the automatic Longines caliber L897, which was produced specifically for Longines. This movement features an annual calendar that accounts for the varying lengths of the months, so you don’t have to worry about manually changing the date after months with only 30 days. It is the first time Longines has offered this feature on any of their watches.

The Master Collection Annual Calendar is available in a 40-mm stainless steel case with a transparent case back that allows you to view the L897 movement. The watch comes with of a blue sunray dial, a black stamped ‘barleycorn’ dial or – the most eye-catching of the three – a silver-finished stamped ‘barleycorn’ dial that also features beautifully contrasting blued steel hands. Each is outfitted with an annual calendar at 3 o’clock, displaying both month and day. In addition to several dial colors, the watch is offered on a stainless steel bracelet or the choice of a blue, black, or brown alligator leather strap.

Whichever version you end up choosing, the Longines Master Collection Annual Calendar is a statement of elegance combined with technical excellence, all at an affordable price. The standout version, however, is the one featuring the stamped silver ‘barleycorn’ dial with Arabic numerals and blued steel hands on a brown strap. Once again, Longines may have struck gold with this Longines Master Collection Annual Calendar.
